Bud became a marketing consultant after successful academic and business careers. After earning both an M.A. in English and an Ed.D, in English Education at Rutgers University, he specialized in composition and professional communications at Michigan Technological University. After 14 years in academia, Bud left to start a career in manufacturing where he rose to GM of the textile care packaging division of a major national folding box-maker.

His two careers have given Bud a unique preparation for marketing HVAC and plumbing services. As a professor of communications at a technological university, he worked to help engineers communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences (consumers, managers and shareholders). Then his management career helped him transition from the Ivory Tower to the nitty-gritty realities of managing sales, distribution, purchasing, technical staff, customer service, budget and operations.

Bud founded Strategic Edge in 2004 designing and managing marketing systems for a wide range of companies including, a realtor, home improvement contractors, health care professionals, and a plumbing/HVAC contractors. He soon learned that a multi-industry focus was spreading him too thin, so he decided to work exclusively with primarily residential HVAC and HVAC/plumbing contractors. That focus enabled him to hone his industry expertise as well as to build an extensive library of industry-specific marketing materials.

Bud belongs to a network of marketing consultants who are applying similar approaches to other industries. They meet regularly to share their experiences and to critique one another's work.
